Kristen Tunno enters her sixth season as the Head Softball Coach of the GSC Lady Pioneers.
“I am blessed to have been given this opportunity to become a part of the Pioneer family here at Glenville State. I am excited to begin promoting the vision and future of Pioneer Softball,” stated Tunno.
2019 saw the Lady Pioneers go 14-36 and 6-24 in the MEC South Division while freshman Karra Smith earned MEC Second Team honors.
In 2018, GSC finished 20-32 (8-24) and finished in 6th in the South Division.
She comes to Glenville State College after serving as assistant softball coach at Davis & Elkins. During her time at D&E she helped lead them to an overall record of 80-105 from 2011 to 2014.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sports & Business Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Spring of 2011 and is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at American Public University.
Before beginning her coaching career she had an outstanding playing career at IUP. She was a four year starter for the Crimson Hawks and was part of an NCAA Division II bid to the World Series. Additionally, the Crimson Hawks were named PSAC Conference Champions and NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional Champions.
Tunno was a three-time All-PSAC Central first team selection in 2009, 2010, and 2011. She was a member of the NCAA Mid Atlantic Region team in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Tunno ranks second at IUP in career batting average hitting .370 and ranks second in career hits with 192. She is also listed in the top ten in a number of other IUP career records, including seventh in games played (165), fourth in at bats (519), seventh in runs batted in (88), and sixth in doubles (30).
A native of Seaford, Virginia, Tunno graduated from Grafton High School in 2007 where she was named first team all-state in both softball and volleyball.
