Sara Scoone

Sara Scoone enters her sixth season as Head Coach of the Glenville State Softball program in 2026.

2025 was the most historical season to date for Pioneer Softball as the Scoone-led Pioneers went (36-17) overall and (22-8) in MEC play, securing the MEC South Division Championship and the overall MEC Regular Season Championship. Scoone was named MEC Coach of the Year, leading GSU to their most overall and conference wins in a single-season in program history. Seven Pioneers were All-MEC selections, including four First Teamers while Makenna Negley and Kylie Burdick were NFCA Second Team All-Region honorees. Scoring runs wasn't an issue for the blue and white either as 311 runs were plated during the year, over 100 more than the previous record. In addition, success was also found in the classroom as all 20 players finished with a GPA above a 3.0 and 10 Pioneers notched a 4.0 GPA.

The 2024 Glenville State Softball team had a record breaking year by posting a (26-20) record overall which is the most single season wins since joining the Mountain East Conference. This record gave them their highest conference finish at #2 since joining the MEC and #7 regional ranking which is the highest ranking in the programs history. They did all this by rallying behind a pitching staff that posted the lowest ERA in team history at 2.31.

In 2023, Glenville State Softball made its first Mountain East Conference Tournament appearance since the 2014 season. As a team, the Lady Pioneers posted a sub-three ERA. Holly Brehm created history once again becoming the first GSU pitcher to produce back-to-back 200-plus strikeout seasons. Brehm also earned another first-team selection becoming the second player in program history to have multiple All-Conference First Team selections.

The Lady Pioneers, in 2022, posted a (17-27) record overall and went (13-18) in the Mountain East Conference. With the newcomer Holly Brehm, the program’s single-season strikeout record would be broken with 209. Brehm also received an All-MEC First Team selection which was the program’s first since the 2014 season.

In her first season, 2021, Coach Scoone and GSU went 11-30 overall and 10-22  in league play. The 10 conference wins is the most league wins since 2013. GSU also ended the season winning seven of their last 10 games.
