In his first year on the coaching staff, Butler helped coach the Pioneers to their best season since joining the MEC in 2013, going (7-4) overall and (7-2) in MEC play with a 2nd place finish in the league. Under Butler's coaching, junior Tariq Miller garnered All-MEC Second Team honors with 42 receptions for 735 yards and eight touchdowns. The wealth was spread around the receiving core in 2024, with eight different receivers registering a catch. 

Butler, a member of the GSU Football team from 2017-21, played in 38 games during his career, amassing numbers that sit with other Pioneer greats. He finished his career with 177 receptions for 2,937 yards and 32 touchdowns. In his four seasons, he had 30+ receptions and 600+ yards in every single season. 

He was also a member of the GSU Track & Field team, previously serving as a Graduate Assistant during the 2022-23 season.
