Jesse Skiles

Jesse Skiles is in his ninth year as the Director of Athletics at Glenville State University in 2025-26.

A proud Glenville alumnus (Class of 1987), Skiles and his ties to the town and school were instrumental in his return.

"Glenville is truly a special place," Skiles noted. "There are so many good people here, and the institution means so much to the community and the area. It was a blessing to get to return to my alma mater."

A native of the Eastern End of Kanawha County, Skiles was a multi-sport athlete at DuPont High School and was a two-way starter in the Panther Football program that shared the KVC title in 1981. He ran track and cross country at Glenville in the mid-80's and was a part of multiple conference title teams at GSU.

As a head coach, he presided over two dynasties, the Glenville Teams of the late 80's, and the West Virginia Wesleyan teams for a 26-year span. His teams won a total of 64 conference titles (34 in track, and 30 in cross country), and was named the Coach of the Year 53 times.

On four separate occasions, Skiles' teams won all four league titles in the same academic year; 1995-96, 2008-09, 2009-10, and 2014-15.

During his tenure back at Glenville, Pioneer teams have captured nine league titles; four in Women's Basketball, three in Women's Golf and two in Wrestling. The 2022 Lady Pioneer Women's Basketball team won the Division II National Championship.

Skiles has two children; Micki Jo (29) and Jesse Jr. (26). He also has three grandchildren; Marci (9), and twins Magnolia and Marigold (6).
