Glenville, W.Va. – GSC freshman outside hitter
Bailey Brawner had a great performance as she recorded a game high 16 kills but it wasn't enough as the Lady Pioneers volleyball team dropped their season opener to the Salem International Tigers, 3-2 on Tuesday evening.
The Lady Pioneers (0-5) would get off to a fast start as they took the first set 25-18. However Salem International would come back and take set two, 26-24.
The Lady Pioneers won the third set, 25-19. But with GSC riding the high after the third set victory the Lady Pioneers lost focused to a more intense Tigers team as they dropped the fourth set, 25-18. In the fifth and final set Glenville State would fall behind early. The Lady Pioneers then fought their way back within two points before dropping set five, 15-12 to the Tigers.
Again
Bailey Brawner had a fabulous night as she had 16 kills to go along with 18 digs. She also had two blocks in the contest. Senior
Madison Smith had 10 kills in the game as she also finished with 12 digs.
Allison Parski and
Madison Gargus each had 20 assists in the contest.
Salem International is was led by Rachel Hess and Sophie Freihofer as they each had nine kills in the game.
Glenville State (0-5) hits the road this weekend as they travel to Owensboro, Kentucky to play in the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament on Friday, September 9
th and Saturday, September 10
th.
