Hot Shooting Leads Hilltoppers Past Pioneers

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers scored 100 points on Saturday afternoon but it would not be enough as they dropped their conference opener to the Hilltoppers of West Liberty, 130-100.

Glenville State (0-4, 0-1) shot 53 percent from the floor but shot 22 percent from deep hitting just 4-of-18 three-pointers while West Liberty (3-0, 1-0) shot 54 percent from the floor and 48 percent from deep going 19-of-39.

The Pioneers got off to a great start in the game as they took an early nine point lead over the Hilltoppers at the 16:15 minute mark at 14-5. However the onslaught of three's would come from West Liberty as they nailed seven three-pointers as they went on a 38-10 run and took a 12 point lead over GSC with 7:14 on the clock till halftime.

Glenville State tried to cut the lead to single digits but the Hilltoppers made another run and took a 28 point lead into halftime, 75-47 over the Pioneers.

In the second half it was all West Liberty as they outscored Glenville State 55 to 53 and drained five three-pointers as they defeated the Pioneers by 30 points, 130-100.

Glenville State turned the ball over 23 times and West Liberty scored points 32 off of them. GSC outscored the Hilltoppers in the paint at 54 to 48 but West Liberty's bench gave them a big lift as they outscored the Pioneers bench 62 to 36.

Darhius Nunn had another great showing as he scored a game high 33 points as he went 11-of-22 from the field. Brooks Ely chipped in with 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Elisha Mayberry, Dwayne Chastian Jr., and Jordan Jackson all chipped in with nine points each.

West Liberty was led by Dan Monteroso as he scored 27 points while Jordan Watson chipped in with 20 points.

Glenville State (0-4, 0-1) will travel to Wheeling Jesuit University this Monday, November 20th as they are still looking for their first victory of the season. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. between the Pioneers and Cardinals.
