Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers are still looking for their first victory of the year as they fell to the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit University on Monday night, 89-65.
Glenville State (0-5, 0-2) had three players score in double figures while Wheeling Jesuit (5-0, 2-0) also had three players score in double figures.
In the first half, GSC and WJU would be all knotted up at 14-14 early in the game. However after that tie the Cardinals went on a 17-4 run as they took a 31-18 lead with 7:46 to play till half.
Wheeling Jesuit went on to take a 24 point lead over Glenville State at halftime, 50-26.
In the second half it was all Cardinals as they built a 31 point lead at the midway point before going on to defeat the Pioneers by 24 points, 89-65.
GSC turned the ball over 23 times while they only forced WJU into 10 turnovers. The Cardinals converted those turnovers by the Pioneers into 26 points. Wheeling Jesuit also held a big advantage in the paint outscoring Glenville State 55-34.
The Pioneers went just 3-of-14 from deep on the night as they finished shooting just 21 percent from behind the arc.
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Jon Dunmyer as he scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds. Elisha Mayberry posted a double-double as he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Theo Brown chipped in with 10 points.
Wheeling Jesuit had two players score over 20 points. Haywood Highsmith led the way with 26 points and 12 rebounds as he posted a double-double and Preston Boswell scored 21 points. Jeremiah Wilson chipped in with 13 points.
Glenville State (0-5, 0-2) will return to action next Wednesday, November 29
th as they host the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State at 7:30 p.m. from the Waco Center.
