Second Half Lifts Lady Pioneers Past Hilltoppers

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers outscored the West Liberty Hilltoppers 54 to 35 in the third and fourth quarters as they picked up a 96-75 win in their home and conference opener this Saturday. With the win at home it also marks the 13th straight home win for the Lady Pioneers which dates back to last season.

Glenville State (2-1, 1-0) had four players score in double figures while West Liberty (1-3, 0-1) also had four players score in double figures.

In the first half both teams went back and forth but a late run in the second quarter helped GSC hold a two point lead at halftime over West Liberty, 42-40. The first half of action saw five lead changes and six ties.

Glenville State would break the game wide open at the 6:03 minute mark of the third quarter as they held a one point lead 50-49. GSC went on an 18-8 run as they took a 10 point lead 68-58 with 1:54 to play in the quarter.

The Lady Pioneers would keep the pressure on as they built a commanding double digit lead as they went on to claim a 21 point victory, 96-75.

Glenville State outscored West Liberty in the paint 62 to 44 while the Lady Pioneers also won the battle on the boards as they out rebounded the Hilltoppers 52 to 45.

GSC also scored 23 second-chance points while West Liberty had just two second-chance points.

Defensively, GSC forced 25 turnovers by the Hilltoppers and scored 28 points off of them. However Glenville State struggled from deep as they shot just 11 percent  hitting just 3-of-26 three-pointers.

Paris McLeod led GSC with 15 points and four assists while freshman Abby Stoller scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds in her home debut. Maya Horne scored 12 points and had three assists while Bhrea Griffin chipped in with 11 points.

West Liberty was led by Audrey Tingle as she scored a game high 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for a double-double while Marissa Brown scored 14 points.

Glenville State (2-1, 1-0) will hit the road this Monday, November 20th as they travel to Wheeling Jesuit University for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with the Cardinals.
