Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers played a great game against Fairmont State University but came up short as they fell to the Fighting Falcons by five, 69-64.
Glenville State (0-6, 0-3) led for much of the contest and held the largest lead of the game at 10 points while Fairmont State (4-2, 2-1) made a late run outscoring the Pioneers 8-3 in the last 3:24 as they came from behind to claim the win.
For much of the first half GSC and FSU would go back and forth however the Pioneers held the advantage at halftime by four points, 34-30.
GSC extended their lead in the second half by 10 points, 44-34, as Theo Brown scored two of his six points off of Dwayne Chastian Jr. pass, with 14:53 left in the game.
However FSU went on an 11-2 run as they tied the game up at 57-57 with 6:08 to play.
Neither team could make much separation as they were knotted up at 61-61 but the Fighting Falcons made that 8-3 run to end the contest as they held on for the victory.
Glenville State scored 10 points off of 10 turnovers by Fairmont State while GSC gave it away eight times and FSU converted them into seven points.
Fairmont State outscored Glenville State in the paint by 11, 44-33 and also had six more second-chance points at 15-8.
Glenville State had three players score in double figures with Darhius Nunn scoring a game high 25 points while Elisha Mayberry scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench. Jon Dunmyer chipped in with 11 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Theo Brown pulled down a team high eight boards to go with his six points.
Fairmont State was led by Jason Jolly as he scored 15 points while D'Ondre Stockman scored 13 points. Vonte Montgomery was the only other Fighting Falcon in double figures as he scored 10 points.
Glenville State (0-6, 0-3) will travel to Shepherd University for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Rams this Saturday, December 2
nd as the Pioneers are still looking for their first victory of the season.
