Pioneers Fall on the Road

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup on the road Saturday at Illinois Springfield 93-69.

Glenville State (0-10) shot just 37 percent from the field while Illinois Springfield (8-3) finished the game shooting 54 percent from the field.

In the first half  both teams would go back and forth however Illinois Springfield took a 10 point lead at the 9;11 minute mark at 25-15. However GSC went on a 14-2 run and took a two point lead, 29-27, with 4:31 to play till halftime.

Despite the Pioneer late run they would go into halftime trailing the Prairie Stars 33-31. The first half saw six ties and six lead changes.

In the second half the Prairie Stars started on a 20 to 9 run as they held a 13 point lead at 53-40 and never looked back as they went on to pick up the 24 point victory over the Pioneers.

GSC turned the ball over 19 times while the Pioneers defense forced the Prairie Stars into 18 turnovers. Glenville State scored 14 points off the turnovers while Illinois Springfield scored 26 points off of them.

The Prairie Stars bench outscored the Pioneer bench 28 to 14 in the contest.

Glenville State had three players score in double figures with JR Kerr scoring a career high 17 points. Darhius Nunn chipped in with 15 points and four assists while Brooks Ely tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.

Illinois Springfield had three players score in double figures with two players scoring 20 plus points. Gilwan Nelson scored a game high 24 points while Eddie Longmeyer chipped in with 20 points and eight rebounds. Logan Gonce scored 12 points in the win for UIS.

Glenville State (0-10) will return to action on New Year's Eve Sunday, December 31st when they host Salem International at 2:00 p.m. from the Waco Center.
