Pioneers Fall on the Road at Concord

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers fell on the road Tuesday evening to the Concord University Mountain Lions by 14 points, 84-70.

Glenville State (0-8, 0-5) had just two players, Darhius Nunn and Brooks Ely, score in double figures while Concord (6-3, 4-1) saw four players score in double figures.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early eight point lead at 12-4 at the 16:14 minute mark. However Concord then went on a 20-4 run as they took a 10 point lead with 6:45 to play till halftime.

Concord ended up taking an 11 point lead into halftime over Glenville State 40-29.

The Pioneers shot 39 percent from the floor in the first half and hit just 2-of-9 three-pointers for 22 percent while Concord finished the first half shooting 46 percent from the field and 35 percent from deep.

In the second half Glenville State would cut the Mountain Lions lead to three points at 44-41 as the Pioneers went on a 12-0 run with 14:16 on the clock. But Concord would weather the storm as they went back up by 10 points at 57-47 as the game headed into the second media timeout of the second half.

The Pioneers again fought back and pulled within six points, 66-60, at the 5:44 minute mark but that's as close as GSC would get as they fell 84-70.

Glenville State finished the night shooting 39 percent from the field while Concord shot 47 percent. The Pioneers went just 4-of-23 from deep for 17 percent with the Mountain Lions hitting 10-of-28 from deep for 36 percent.

GSC turned the ball over 17 times while CU turned it over 16 times. The Mountain Lions won the rebounding battle by three out rebounding GSC 42-39.

Concord had a huge offensive output from their bench as they outscored Glenville State's bench 33-3.

Darhius Nunn and Brooks Ely did the bulk of the scoring for the Pioneers. Nunn scored a game high 29 points to go with three assists while Ely poured in 24 points as he went 7-of-11 from the field and pulled down five rebounds.

Andrew Johnson and Theo Brown both chipped in with seven points each.

Concord was led by the MEC Player of the Week in Tommy Bolte as he scored 22 points. Darian Peterson chipped in with 19 points as he went 8-of-10 from the floor while BJ Hamlet scored 15 points and Antonio Patterson chipped in with 10 points.

Glenville State (0-8, 0-5) will host the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise this Saturday, December 9th at 4:00 p.m. from the Waco Center.
