GSC Earns Sixth Straight Victory

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer basketball team picked up their sixth straight win on the road Tuesday night as they defeated the Mountain Lion of Concord University 127-82.

Glenville State (7-1, 5-0) forced Concord University (3-5, 1-4) into 42 turnovers and converted them into 37 points.

GSC held an eight point lead over CU with 4:34 on the clock. The Lady Pioneers then busted the game wide open as they ended the first quarter on a 12-4 run as they held a 30-14 lead over Concord.

In the second quarter GSC only outscored CU by two points at 29-27 however the Lady Pioneers still took an 18 point lead into halftime 59-41.

GSC went just 5-of-22 from deep for 22 percent but went 21-for-51 from the field for 41 percent in the first half while Concord went 15-of-34 from the floor for 44 percent and hit 4-of-9 three-pointers for 44 percent.

Glenville State started the third quarter on a 12-8 run with Kristin DesRocher nailing two deep three-pointer as the Lady Pioneers took a 71-49 lead with 7:15 left in the quarter. The Lady Pioneers went on to outscore the Mountain Lions 38-29 in the third quarter and outscored CU 30-12 in the fourth as they claimed the 45 point victory.

Glenville State scored over 100 points for the second straight game and third time this year.

The Lady Pioneers defense came away with 30 steals but they lost the rebounding battle at 51-44.

GSC finished the night shooting 44 percent from the field and 33 percent from deep hitting 18-of-54 three-points while Concord shot 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.

Paris McLeod had another fabulous game for the Lady Pioneers as she scored 15 points and dished out a season high 14 assists as she posted a double-double of which was her first of the season. It also marks the eighth straight game that McLeod has scored double figures.

Emily Stoller paced GSC with 18 points while Kristin DesRocher scored 17 points hitting 5-of-her-9 three-pointers. Erika Toney chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds while Julie Bishop finished with 12 points.

Concord was led by Madison May as she scored a game high 21 points while Danielle Catron chipped in with 18 points.

Glenville State (7-1, 5-0) returns to action this Saturday, December 9th at 2:00 p.m. when they host the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise at the Waco Center.
