Glenville State Mounts Comeback Against UC, Wins 14th Straight

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers erased a 19 point deficit as they came from behind to claim their 14th straight victory defeating the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston on the road Saturday 69-63.

Glenville State (15-1, 9-0) had just two player's score in double figures but forced Charleston (8-7, 5-5) into 30 turnovers.

The Lady Pioneers started the game on a 14-6 run over Charleston in the first five minutes of action led by Paris McLeod's five points. GSC also had four different players hit three-pointers in that early run.

However Charleston went on an 11-4 run to end the first quarter but the Lady Pioneers held onto their lead by one, 18-17.

In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles went on an 8-3 run as they built a four point lead over GSC 25-21 at the 6:26 minute mark. Glenville State then made a run of their own to tie it up at 28 all with 3:51 left to play till halftime.

However the Golden Eagles would end up with a one point lead over the Lady Pioneers at halftime 31-30. GSC shot just 29 percent from the field in the first half while UC shot 47 percent.

Charleston came out hot to start the third as they scored the first 16 points of the quarter as they took a 47-30 lead at the 4:42 minute mark. Glenville State's first points of the third quarter finally came at the 4:36 minute mark as Emily Stoller hit 1-of-2 free-throws but the Lady Pioneers trailed by 16 points 47-31. UC would end up outscoring GSC 23-10 in the quarter as the Golden Eagles took a 54-40 lead into the fourth.

Glenville State would mount a comeback as they started the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run as they cut UC's lead to single digits 54-52 with 6:05 left in the game. The Lady Pioneers then tied it up at 54 all at the 4:53 minute mark as Bhrea Griffin drilled two free-throws.

Paris McLeod's jumper with 4:45 to play would finally give Glenville State the lead, 56-54, after trailing by 19 points. The Lady Pioneers would end up outscoring the Golden Eagles 29-9 in the fourth as they pulled off the come from behind victory.

Glenville State finished the game shooting just 29 percent from the field and 25 percent from deep while Charleston shot 44 percent from the field and 35 percent from deep.

GSC registered 15 steals in the contest and scored 31 points off of UC's turnovers.

Paris McLeod scored a game high 23 points in 27 minutes of action as she went 7-of-20 from the field. McLeod also had five steals and three assists in the win. The only other Lady Pioneer in double figures was Courtney Davis as she scored 11 points and pulled down nine boards.

Erika Toney had eight points off the bench while Emily Stoller chipped in with six points.

Charleston had three players score in double figures with Ambrea Williams scoring a team high 13 points and five rebounds. Anna Hayton chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Glenville State (15-1, 9-0) will return to action next Wednesday, January 17th at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to Fairmont State University for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with the Fighting Falcons.
