Glenville State Earns Road Win Over Fairmont State, Extends Win Streak to 15 Straight

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers extended their winning streak to 15 straight games as they went on the road Wednesday night and picked up a 30 point victory over the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State University 90-60.

Glenville State (16-1, 11-0) forced Fairmont State (7-9, 3-8) into 30 turnovers and converted them into 26 points.

The Lady Pioneers would score the first four points of the game as they took an early 4-0 lead. GSC then went on a 7-4 run as they built a seven point lead at the 5:21 minute mark of the first quarter 11-4.

The Lady Pioneers later extended their lead to 10 points at 24-14 at the 2:20 minute mark. However FSU would end the quarter on an 8-6 run as they cut the Lady Pioneers lead to eight, 30-22, as the first quarter came to an end.

Glenville State then scored the first six point of the second quarter as they held a 36-22 lead with 7:53 to play till halftime. The Lady Pioneers then outscored the Fighting Falcons 12-6 to end the quarter as they took a commanding 18 point halftime lead 48-30.

The Lady Pioneers shot 36 percent from the field in the first half while FSU shot 31 percent. GSC also shot lights out from deep in the first half as they finished shooting 40 percent from the behind the arc.

In the third, GSC would continue their dominate play as they started the quarter on a 14-8 run and built a 24 point lead 62-38 with 4:13 to play. Glenville State eventually took a 71-48 lead over Fairmont State as we headed into the fourth quarter.  

The Lady Pioneers ended up outscoring the Fighting Falcons 19-12 in the fourth as they claimed the 30 point win.

Glenville State finished the night shooting 35 percent from the field and 29 percent from deep while Fairmont State also shot 35 percent from the field and 29 percent from deep.

The Lady Pioneers had a big advantage on the boards as they out rebounded FSU by 17, 56-39. GSC also scored 21 second chance points while the Fighting Falcons scored just three.

Glenville State had four players in double figures with Paris McLeod leading the way with 22 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in 21 minutes of action. Bhrea Griffin scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Emily Stoller chipped in with 12 points as she went 4-of-6 from deep.

Erika Toney scored 11 points and pulled down eight boards while Julie Bishop finished with nine points all coming in the first half. Courtney Davis pulled down eight rebounds to go along with four points.

Fairmont State was led by freshman Sierra Kotchman as she had a game-high 23 points. Brooke Kurucz   chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds.

Glenville State (16-1, 11-0) will return to the court on Saturday, January 20th when they host the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
