Pioneers Fall on the Road at Fairmont State

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team went on the road Wednesday night and suffered a 21 point loss to Fairmont State University 91-70.

Glenville State (2-14, 1-10) had five players in double figures while Fairmont State (13-4, 9-2) had three players post double figures.

The Pioneers started the game off hot as they held a three point lead over the Fighting Falcons 11-8 with 15:08 to play in the first. FSU then went on a 16-12 run as they took just a one point lead 24-23 at the 7:00 minute mark.

However Fairmont State then made another run, this time outscoring Glenville State 12-5 as they took a nine point lead 36-27 with 4:50 till halftime. FSU made some separation late in the first as they scored the last six point before the half as they took a 45-34 lead over the Pioneers.

In the second half, FSU started on a 6-0 run as they built a 17 point lead, 51-34, with 18:13 left in the game. GSC would try and chip away at the Fighting Falcons lead but the hot shooting of FSU would continue as they held the double digit lead, at 19, 71-52 at the second media timeout of the half.

Fairmont State would control the rest of the contest as they ended up defeating the Pioneers by 21 points, 91-70.    

Glenville State shot 40 percent from the field and 35 percent from deep while Fairmont State shot 46 percent from the floor and 36 percent from deep hitting 16-of-44 three-pointer. FSU won the rebounding battle as they out rebounded GSC by 11, 49-38.

Fairmont State scored 19 second-chance points while the Pioneers had just four.

Glenville State was led by freshman Elisha Mayberry as he scored a team high 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Jon Dunmyer scored 11 points on the and also had six rebounds. Thoe Brown, Brooks Ely, and JR Kerr all chipped in with 10 points each on the night. Ely came up just a rebound short of a double-double as he finished with nine.

R.J. Hutcherson scored a game high 22 points for FSU as he went 6-of-10 from deep and also grabbed 10 rebounds as he posted a double-double. Caleb Davis scored 18 points and dished out six assists while Vonte Montgomery finished with 12 points.

Glenville State (2-14, 1-10) will host West Virginia Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. this Saturday.
