Lady Pioneer Soccer Drops Road Match to West Liberty

West Liberty, W.Va. – On Wednesday afternoon the GSC Lady Pioneer soccer team fell on the road to the Hilltoppers of West Liberty University, 3-0.

Glenville State (0-17, 0-13) had three total shots and no corner kicks while West Liberty (5-8-3, 5-5-2) recorded 43 shots and had 16 corner kicks in the game.

Julia Lesko had an early shot in the first half to give GSC the lead but her shot went wide. West Liberty then took a 1-0 lead at the 22:00 minute mark as Jordan Smith scored on an unassisted goal.

Brittany Maphis had a chance to tie it up with 29:31 on the clock in the first however her shot would go high.

The Hilltoppers then capitalized at the 31:27 mark as Layne Hartnell scored off of an assist from Kaylee Hillard as GSC went down, 2-0.

West Liberty then added another goal before half as Layne Hartnell scored, her second of the game, off of an assist from Kaelyn Oskin as the Lady Pioneers trailed at the break, 3-0.

Glenville State finished with two shots in the first while the West Liberty had 20 shots.

In the second half, West Liberty would attempt 23 shots but GSC would hold them scoreless. However the Lady Pioneers only attempted one shot as they ended up falling, 3-0.

Julia Lesko, Brittany Maphis, and Amanda Thies all had a shot in the game.

Goal keeper Hannah Beaty had 20 saves on the day.

Layne Hartnell had two goals for West Liberty while Jordan Smith had the other score.

Goalie Kaitlyn Taylor had one save in the contest.

Glenville State (0-17, 0-13) will return home this Sunday, October 28th as they host Fairmont State University on Senior Day at 1 p.m. from Morris Stadium.
