Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneer women's basketball team had a balanced offensive attack as they won their home opener over the Ohio Dominican University Panthers, 116-88.
Glenville State (3-0) netted 15 three-pointers while forcing Ohio Dominican (1-2) into 24 turnovers.
The Panthers got off to a good start in as they held a 13-11 lead over GSC at the first media timeout of the first quarter. Glenville State and Ohio Dominican then found themselves tied up at 16 all with 3:08 to play.
After that tie GSC then went on a 15-0 run as they took a 31-16 lead after one quarter of action.
The Panther then outscored the Lady Pioneers 31-30 in the second quarter however GSC still held a 14 point halftime lead at, 61-47.
In the third, ODU came out and scored five straight points as they cut GSC's lead to single digits at nine, 61-52 at the 9:13 minute mark. However, GSC would weather the Panthers attack as they went back up by 19 with 1:51 to play in the third, 82-63.
At the start of the fourth the Lady Pioneers held an 87-65 lead. Glenville State went onto outscore Ohio Dominican 29-23 on their way to a 28 point win in their home opener, 116-88.
Glenville State's largest lead of the game was 32 points while Ohio Dominican largest was five.
The Lady Pioneers shot 48 percent from the floor while hitting 15 three-pointers as they finished the game shooting 34 percent from deep. The Panthers shot 53 percent from the floor and 42 percent from behind the arc.
Glenville State won the rebounding battle by three at, 44-41. The Lady Pioneers also scored 35 points off of 24 Panther turnovers. GSC outscored ODU in the paint at 62-61 while also scoring 28 fast break points while the Panthers had just three.
Glenville State had six players score in double figures with
Donasja Scott leading the way with a team-high 20 points while grabbing seven rebounds.
Emily Stoller went 7-of-14 from the field as she scored 18 points and dished out a game-high five assists.
Courtney Davis scored 16 points with six rebounds while Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 12 points.
Blaize Burgess and
Taychaun Hubbard each scored 10 points in the victory.
Ohio Dominican was led by Angela Troyer as she scored a game-high 21 points while Alexis Overly scored 20 points and had eight rebounds.
Glenville State (3-0) will hit the road this weekend as they travel to West Liberty, W.Va. for a matchup with the Hilltoppers of West Liberty as they start MEC conference play. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
