West Liberty, W.Va. – GSC's Emily Stoller scored a game-high, as well as, a career high of 44 points as the Glenville State Lady Pioneers went on the road and picked up a 17 point win against the West Liberty University Hilltoppers, 122-105.
Glenville State (4-0, 1-0) shot 50 percent from the floor and 47 percent from deep. West Liberty (2-2, 0-1) shot 50 percent from the field and 41 percent from deep.
The Hilltoppers would control the early minutes of the contest as they led GSC 5-4. Glenville State then took their first lead of the game at the 7:26 minute mark as Abby Stoller scored two on the inside as the Lady Pioneers took a 6-5 lead.
The scoring then came in bunches for both teams as the Lady Pioneers and Hilltoppers went up and down in the quarter. At the end of one, West Liberty would hold the three point lead at 28-25.
Glenville State started the second quarter with a three-pointer from Maya Horne as she tied it up at 28-28. However West Liberty answered with a three-pointer of their own as they went back up, 31-28.
The Lady Pioneers retaliated back and went up by two at 37-35. However West Liberty held a one point lead at the media timeout of the second quarter at, 42-41, with 4:43 in until halftime. The Hilltoppers came out after the timeout and scored six straight points as they went up 48-41.
Blaize Burgess would stop the run with a three-pointer pulling the Lady Pioneers within four, 48-44. West Liberty again responded with a 7-0 run as they went up, 55-44. GSC then made an 8-0 run as Emily Stoller scored five straight points followed by Re'Shawna Stone's three-pointer pulling within three, 55-52.
As the second quarter ended Emily Stoller would drill a deep three-pointer as she gave the Lady Pioneers a one point lead at halftime, 58-57.
Both teams shot well from deep in the first half. GSC went 7-of-16 for 43 percent while WLU went 6-of-12 for 50 percent. The Hilltoppers shot 20 free-throws in the first while the Lady Pioneers had just four.
Glenville State started the third quarter on an 8-2 run as Emily Stoller continued with the hot hand as she scored five of GSC's eight points as the Lady Pioneer led, 66-59 at the 7:54 minute mark. However, West Liberty would make a 6-1 run of their own as they made it a two point contest at 67-65 with 6:43 to play in the third.
After the media timeout, GSC made separation as they scored 17 straight points to take an 84-65 lead with under three minutes to go in the quarter. The Lady Pioneers headed into the fourth holding a 15 point lead, 93-78. Glenville State outscored West Liberty 35-21 in the third quarter.
The Lady Pioneers would control the fourth and outscore the Hilltoppers 29-27 as they earned their first conference victory and fourth win of the year defeating the Hilltoppers, 122-105.
The game saw six ties and had 15 lead changes.
Glenville State won the rebounding battle at 49-38 while also forcing West Liberty into 22 turnovers. The Lady Pioneers cashed in on those turnovers scoring 25 points off of them.
GSC drilled 11 three-pointers while WLU had 10 in the contest.
Emily Stoller had herself a great day as she poured in 44 points as she went 18-for-26 form the field and 4-of-6 from deep. Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 25 points and dished out five assists.
Courtney Davis finished with a double-double as she scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Donasja Scott chipped in with 10 points.
West Liberty's Marissa Brown posted a double-double as she had 34 points and 14 rebounds.
Glenville State (4-0, 1-0) will return to action on Monday, November 19
th as they host the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
