GSC Drops 121 in Win Over Carlow

Glenville, W.Va. – For the first time since 2006 the Glenville State Pioneer men's basketball has started the season 3-0 after defeating the Carlow Celtics in their home opener on Thursday evening from inside the Waco Center, 121-89.

Glenville State (3-0) got out and running fast in the contest as scored 26 fast break points while Carlow (1-5) scored just four fast break points on the night.

The Pioneers and Celtics found themselves tied up early at 7-7 however on GSC's next possession Darhius Nunn would connect on a three making it, 10-7.

At the 16:38 mark of the first the flood gates opened and the Pioneers came rushing through. At the first media time out the Pioneers secured a 12 point lead at, 25-13.

Glenville State eventually stretched their lead to 25 with 3:19 remaining in the first, 65-40. The Pioneers then took a 71-48 lead into halftime.

As a team the Pioneers had 13-of-their-20 assists in the first half.

In the second half of action it would be all GSC as they outscored Carlow 50-41 cruising to the 32 point win, 121-89.

The Pioneers shot 50 percent from the floor and 27 percent from deep while Carlow shot 39 percent from the field and just 14 percent from deep.

Glenville State also got a nice lift from their bench as they outscored the Celtics bench 36-27 in the game.

Davion Johnson recorded his third straight double-double in just his third game as a Pioneer. Johnson scored a game-high 26 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Phil Bledsoe scored 23 points as he went 8-of-9 from the floor and 2-for-3 from deep.

Point guard Darhius Nunn also had a double-double as he chipped in with 17 points and dished out a game-high 11 assists. Ty Robinson and Kalin Johnson each scored 10 points in the win while Robinson grabbed eight rebounds and had five blocks.

Carlow was led by Tony Acrie as he scored 21 points and grabbed nine boards.

Glenville State (3-0) will jump into MEC conference play this weekend as they travel to West Liberty, W.Va. for a big matchup with the Hilltoppers of West Liberty. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
