Glenville, W.Va. – GSC point guard
Darhius Nunn posted a career-high 42 points as the Pioneer basketball team held on and claimed their fourth win of the season defeating the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals, 117-113.
Jump too late in the second half and WJU's Frank Kamgain drilled a three-pointer to pull the Cardinals within one point with 20 seconds to play. However, Darhiuns Nunn would score the last three points for the Pioneers, all free-throws, as they claimed the four point win.
Glenville State (4-1, 1-1) had five players score in double figures and shot 50 percent from the field. Wheeling Jesuit (0-4, 0-2) had four players in double figures and shot 54 percent in the ball game.
After an excellent first half, the Pioneers they took a 57-43 lead into halftime over the Cardinals.
In the second half, Wheeling Jesuit would erase the 19 point lead by the Pioneers as they outscored them 70-60 while shooting 61 percent from the field. Again, GSC made enough plays down the stretch to hold on to the 117-113 victory.
The Pioneers won the rebounding battle by two, 42-40. The Cardinals had a big advantage in the paint outscoring GSC 63 to 49 on the inside.
GSC scored 21 second chance points while WJU had 12.
Darhius Nunn had himself a night as he poured in a career-high 42 points and dished out a game-high 16 assists as he posted his third double-double of the season. Nunn finished the night going 10-of-16 from deep and went 14-for-21 from the field.
Davion Johnson and
Phil Bledsoe each chipped in with 21 points apiece. Bledsoe pulled down 12 rebounds as he recorded a double-double.
Jamal Pollydore scored 15 points while
Karl Jeanty chipped in with 13 points.
Wheeling Jesuit had three players scored in double figures. Jay Gentry had a team-high 36 points while Brendan Hoban chipped in with 25 points and dished out eight assists.
Glenville State (4-1, 1-1) will return to action on Monday, November 26
th when they travel to Radford, Virginia for an exhibition game with Radford University. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
