GSC Has Five Players Score Double Figures as they Defeat the Rams of Shepherd University

Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer men's basketball team had five players post double figures with three players posting a double-doubles as they defeated the Shepherd University Rams on Saturday, 106-101.

Glenville State (5-2, 2-2) drained 15 three-pointers and won the rebounding battle over the Rams (5-2, 2-2) 46 to 39.

After a fast paced first half the Pioneers and Rams would battle back and forth. GSC jumped out to an early eight point lead at the 13:58 mark, 16-8. However, the Rams then went on a 13-2 run as they tied it up at 18 all.

GSC then made a 10-0 run as they built a 10 point lead at 28-18 with 10:21 to play. The Rams battled back and cut the Pioneers lead to just three at, 38-35 with less than four minutes until halftime. Glenville State eventually took a nine point lead into the break at, 53-44.

In the second half, the Rams would erase the nine point Pioneer lead as they went on a 15-2 run and took a four point lead with 16:69 to play, 59-55. Jump to the 11:06 minute mark and the Rams built a 10 point lead at 69-79. However, the Pioneers never gave up and continued to push the pace. GSC would erase the deficit and tie the game up at 94 all with less than four minutes to play.

After a free-throw by Phil Bledsoe and a huge three-pointer from freshman Howard Smith GSC would take a four point lead, 98-94. After a miss on the Rams next possession they were then forced to foul. Glenville State then went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the last two minutes as they picked up the win, 106-101.

Shepherd shot 51 percent from the field while Glenville State shot 47 percent from the field.

Darhius Nunn had a great evening as he scored a game-high 32 points and dished out 13 assists for a double-double. Davion Johnson scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. Phil Bledsoe was the other Pioneer with a double-double as he scored 17 points and had 15 rebounds.

Kalin Johnson chipped in with 18 points while freshman Howard Smith scored 15 points off the bench.  

Shepherd was led by Thomas Lang as he scored 29 points while Derek McKnight chipped in with 25 points.

Glenville State (5-2, 2-2) will host the Mountain Lions of Concord University next Wednesday, December 5th at 7:30 p.m. from the Waco Center.
