Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer men's basketball team dropped a close game on Wednesday night at home to the Concord University Mountain Lions, 101-97.
Glenville State (5-3, 2-3) shot an outstanding 51 percent from the field and 41 percent from deep while Concord (6-2, 4-1) shot 42 percent from the field and 43 percent from behind the arc.
Jump to late in the second half and the Pioneers and Mountain Lions found their selves tied up at 91-91. Concord's Jair Rogers broke the tie with a layup at the 1:59 mark putting the Mountain Lions up 93-91.
After a turnover on the Pioneers next possession and then several missed shots forced GSC to foul. Concord then went 8-of-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch as they to held on to a four point win, 101-97.
Glenville State started the contest with hot shooting as they built a 10 point lead twice. The first 10 point lead came at the 15:53 minute mark as the Pioneers led 17-7 and then later at the 9:16 mark at 33-23.
After trailing for most of the first half Concord took a 37-36 lead over GSC with under five minutes until halftime. The Mountain Lions then outscored the Pioneers 12-9 to end the half as GSC trailed at the break, 49-45.
Concord stretched their lead to 10 early in the second half at 57-47 before the Pioneers came storming back however the comeback came up short as both teams scored 52 points each in the second.
The contest had eight ties and nine lead changes.
The Pioneers had 15 turnovers on the night while the Mountain Lions had just eight. Â
Glenville State had four players reach double figures with
Darhius Nunn leading the way with 27 points and 11 assist as he posted a double-double.
Jamal Pollydore scored 23 points as he drained six three-pointers.
Phil Bledsoe and
Davion Johnson both recorded a double-double. Bledsoe scored 15 points and grabbed 16 boards while Davion chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Tommy Bolte scored a game-high 39 points to lead the Mountain Lions. Bolte grabbed seven rebounds and had five assist. Jair Rogers chipped in with 25 points in the contest.
Glenville State (5-3, 2-3) will travel to Wise, Virginia this Saturday, December 8
th for a 2 p.m. matchup with the UVa-Wise Cavaliers.
