Lady Pioneers Extend Home Win Streak with Win over Shepherd

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers extended their home win streak to 28 games on Saturday afternoon with a 111-103 win over the Rams of Shepherd University.

Glenville State (6-1, 3-1) earned the victory after netting 12 three-pointers while the Rams (3-4, 1-3) finished with nine three-pointers in the game. Glenville State's 28 game home win streak extends all the way back to the 2016 season.   

The first quarter proved to be a battle between the two teams leaving them all knotted up at, 23-23. GSC made some separation in the second quarter as they outscored the Rams, 29-24 as the Lady Pioneers held a seven point lead, 54-47 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Rams made a run midway in the quarter as they took a one point lead at the 4:29 minute mark at 60-59. The Lady Pioneers then gained control of the contest as they built another seven point lead off of two free-throws by Emily Stoller as they led, 73-66.

Glenville State then scored the last five points of the third as they entered the fourth with a 12 point lead, 78-66.

In the fourth the Rams proved to be persistent and closed the gap making the score, 80-77. As the fourth continued on scoring went back and forth. The gap between the Lady Pioneers and Rams was closest at the 5:26 mark, as Shepherd pulled within two, 92-90.

Then the GSC defense stepped up as they held Shepherd scoreless for three minutes as the Lady Pioneers took a 98-91 lead before going on to defeat the Rams by eight, 111-103.

The contest had 11 ties and 19 lead changes. There was also 56 total fouls called in the game.

Glenville State won the rebounding battle by four at 45-41. The Lady Pioneers scored 59 points in the paint, with 21 fast break points, and also scored 26 points off of 25 Ram turnovers.

Both teams shot the ball well on the afternoon. Shepherd shot 53 percent from the field and 52 percent from deep while Glenville State shot 43 percent from the floor and 30 percent from behind the arc.  

GSC had three players reach double-figures with Emily Stoller scoring a game-high 34 points. Stoller also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists.

Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 20 points while Blazie Burgess scored 19 points in the win. Courtney Davis grabbed 10 rebounds while scoring five points.

Kayla Tibbs paced the Rams with 31 points as she went 8-of-10 from three-point range. Sydney Clayton chipped in with 28 points and eight rebounds before fouling out.

Glenville State (6-1, 3-1) will return to action on Wednesday, December 5th when they host the Concord University Mountain Lions form the Waco Center at 5:30 p.m.
