Lady Pioneers Roll Past Mountain Lions

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer basketball team netted 19 three-pointers and forced 35 turnovers as they earned a 114-87 win over the Concord University Mountain Lions on Wednesday night at the Waco Center.

Glenville State (7-1, 4-1) outscored Concord (5-3, 3-2) 31-15 in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Mountain Lions outscored the Lady Pioneers by three in the second quarter however GSC held a 13 point lead at the intermission, 56-43.

Glenville State started the third quarter on a 10-0 run as they went up by 23 points at 66-43. Later, in the quarter the Lady Pioneers managed to add to their lead as they went up by 30 with 1:39 to play, 94-64.

Heading into the fourth GSC held a 94-66 lead. Concord outscored Glenville State by one in the fourth quarter, 21-20 but the damage was done as the Lady Pioneers earned their 29th straight home victory, 114-87.

Glenville State shot 40 percent from the field and 27 percent from deep hitting 19-of-70 three-pointers. Concord shot 54 percent from the floor and 18 percent from behind the arc hitting just two three-pointers in the contest.

The Lady Pioneers defense forced 35 turnovers and converted them into 50 points. GSC outscored Concord in the paint at 62-60 while the Lady Pioneers also scored 32 fast break points.

Emily Stoller poured in a game-high 30 points, hitting six three-pointers, while dishing out seven assist. Ty Armstrong scored 21 points as she netted five three-pointers while Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 13 points and seven assists.

Donasja Scott scored 12 points off the bench and Abby Stoller chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds.

Concord was led by Madison May as she scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as she posted a double-double. Riley Fitzwater also had a double-double as she scored 15 points and 12 boards.

Glenville State (7-1, 4-1) will hit the road on Saturday, December 8th when they travel to Wise, Virginia to battle the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m.
