Bledsoe Lifts Pioneers Past Bluefield State

Glenville, W.Va. – Behind 33 points and 13 rebounds from junior forward Phil Bledsoe, the Glenville State Pioneers earned a 20-point victory over the Bluefield State Big Blues on Thursday afternoon inside the Waco Center 100-80.
 
Glenville State (6-4) went 40-of-75 from the field for 53 percent while Bluefield State (3-6) shot 40 percent from the floor going 31-for-77.
 
The Pioneers trailed early in the contest as Bluefield State led 8-5 with 15:28 to play. After trailing, GSC then went on a 21-14 run and took a 10-point lead 29-19 with 8:31 to play until halftime.
 
The Big Blues would then cut the Pioneers lead to just six points twice however GSC weathered the storm and held a 43-33 lead at intermission.
 
In the second half it would be all Pioneers as they built a 29-point lead, largest of the contest, and eventually went on to defeat Bluefield State, 100-80.
 
The contest had six lead changes and three ties. GSC led for most of the contest at 34:49 while Bluefield State led for just 2:56.
 
Glenville State scored 59 of their 100 points in the paint while the Big Blues scored 40 on the inside. The Pioneers also outscored the Big Blues in fast break points at 15-12.
 
Phil Bledsoe recorded his fifth double-double of the season as he scored a career-high 33 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Bledsoe drilled 7-of-12 from deep in the game and finished 12-of-19 from the field.
 
Davion Johnson also posted a double-double, his seventh of the year, scoring 19 points and pulling down 10 boards to go along with a SportsCenter worthy slam dunk. Davion also recorded three blocks in the contest.
 
Jamal Pollydore scored 13 points for GSC while Kalin Johnson chipped in with 10 points off the bench and dished out eight assists.
 
Bluefield State was led by Korey Williams as he scored 17 points to go along with eight boards, and eight assists. Teyon Henry chipped in with 15 points.
 
Glenville State (6-4) will return to action on Monday, December 17th when they travel to Davis & Elkins College for a 5 p.m. matchup with the Senators.
