Charlotte, N.C. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers had three players score in double figures with Re'Shawna Stone leading the way with a game-high 19 points defeating Johnson C. Smith on the road Saturday, 78-75.
Glenville State (9-1) improved their win streak to four straight games while Johnson C. Smith (2-5) had their two game winning streak snapped. Â
It was a close contested game throughout as there were eight lead changes and had six ties.
Glenville State had a great first quarter as they held a nine point lead, 24-15 after one. However Johnson C. Smith outscored GSC in the second and the Lady Pioneers took just a three-point lead into halftime, 39-36.
The Golden Bulls won the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Pioneers 23-14 and took a 59-53 lead heading into the fourth.
Glenville State would responded and overcome the deficit outscoring JCSU 25-16 in the fourth as the Lady Pioneers picked up the three-point victory, 78-75.
GSC only shot 37 percent from the field and just 23 percent from deep while JCSU shot 44 percent from the floor and 25 percent from behind the arc.
Glenville State's defense forced 27 turnovers and converted them into 20 points. The Lady Pioneers scored 15 second chance points while the Golden Bulls scored just nine.
GSC also had advantage scoring 13 fast break points while JCSU scored just four.
Freshman Re'Shawna Stone had a game-high 19 points to lead GSC. Stone also pulled down seven rebounds, dished out five assists, and had four steal.
Ty Armstrong scored 13 points while
Emily Stoller finished with 11 in the win.
Courtney Davis grabbed seven rebounds and scored nine points while
Zakiyah Winfield also chipped in with nine points.
Johnson C. Smith was led by Blaire Thomas as she scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds while DeNajha Porter chipped in with 13 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as she posted a double-double.
Glenville State (9-1) will not return to action until Monday, December 31
st when they travel to Bellarmine for a 2 p.m. tip-off. Â
