Wise, Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneer basketball team picked up a road win on Saturday over the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise, 105-69.
Glenville State (8-1, 5-1) forced UVa-Wise (4-5, 3-3) into 41 turnovers and converted them into 40 points picking up the victory.
After one quarter of action GSC held just a four point lead over the Cavaliers, 18-14 as we headed into the second. UVa-Wise started the second quarter on an 8-2 run as the Cavaliers led, 22-20.
However after that run the Lady Pioneers never looked back as they went on to outscore UVa-Wise 39-21 in the quarter and took a, 57-35 lead into halftime.
In the third, GSC outscored UVa-Wise 31-12 but the Cavaliers won the fourth outscoring the Lady Pioneers 22-17 as Glenville State went on to collect the 36 point victory, 105-69.
Glenville State shot 45 percent from the field but went just 9-of-34 from deep for 26 percent. The Cavaliers shot 30 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.
The Lady Pioneers recorded 46 fast break points while the Cavaliers had just 10.
Emily Stoller led GSC with 21 points to go along with four boards, and three assists. Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 14 points, seven assists, and five steals.
Zakiyah Winfield scored 15 points while
Ty Armstrong had 12 points in the win.
UVa-Wise was led by Cynita Webb as she scored 21 points and pulled down 23 rebounds for a double-double.
Glenville State (8-1, 5-1) will hit the road next Saturday, December 15
th when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. for a non-conference matchup with Johnson C. Smith. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Â Â Â
