Glenville, W.Va. - The No. 12/11 Glenville State Lady Pioneers drilled 24 three-point baskets on the road Thursday night as they dominated the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets, 128-80, extends win streak to 19 straight.
The Lady Pioneers (20-1, 15-0) forced the Yellow Jackets (8-13, 8-7) into 33 turnovers and converted them into 47 points.
Glenville State began the game on an 11-6 run including a jumper from
Taylor Parker and a three-point basket from
Courtney Davis. A pair of consecutive three-pointers from seniors
Asiya Smith and
Paris McLeod put the Lady Pioneers up 11, 23-12. However, a short jumper and three-pointer to follow from the Yellow Jackets would set them up on a 9-2 run, putting them within 4 to end the first quarter, 25-21.
The second quarter began with the two team's trading buckets, WVSU keeping it within two, 25-23, just a minute into the quarter. Then a steal and a three-pointer from McLeod put the Lady Pioneers up seven, 39-32. Later a jumper and lay-in from
Courtney Davis put GSC up by double digits, 46-36. With under two minutes left in the half, another three-pointer from
Tayana Stewart put Glenville State up 52-36, followed by a three-pointer from
Julie Bishop, led to a 55-39 lead going into halftime.
Third quarter began with a layup from senior
Bhrea Griffin setting the Lady Pioneers up for a 14-5 run. Glenville State wouldn't look back as a three-pointer from
Taylor Parker would put GSC up 32 points, 89-57. Glenville State would go on to outscore the Yellow Jackets 40-20 in the quarter to setup a 36-point lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Pioneers would go on to outscore West Virginia State, 33-21 as GSC claimed the 48 point victory, 128-80.
It was a big night shooting for Glenville State as they shot 41 percent from deep with 24 made three-pointers, just two shy of the school record. WVSU shot 38 percent from beyond the arc and the two teams combined for 36 total made three-pointers. The Lady Pioneers also claimed 34 second chance points to WVSU's six.
The Lady Pioneers had six players score in double figures.
Paris McLeod led GSC with 20 points, seven assists, and eight steals.
Bhrea Griffin registered a double- double for the Lady Pioneers with 16 points and 15 assists, marking her second game with over 10 assists.
Courtney Davis had a good night, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds for GSC in the victory.
Tayana Stewart scored 19 points hitting five three-pointers while
Taylor Parker and
Julie Bishop both chipped in with 14 points.
West Virginia State had three players in double figures with Aurreshae Hines with a game-high 24 points.
Glenville State (20-1, 15-0) returns to play this Saturday, February 3
rd for Winter Homecoming, inside the Waco Center, at 2:00 p.m. as they host the University of Charleston Golden Eagles.
