Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer Basketball team dropped a road game on Saturday afternoon to the Blue Knight of Urbana University, 89-68.
Glenville State (6-18, 4-14) scored just 36 second half points while Urbana (4-20, 3-15) scored 42 points in the paint as the Pioneers fell by 21 points.
Urbana University jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in the first half however GSC responded by going on a 14-9 run as they tied the contest up at 14 all with 14:02 to play.
The Pioneers then took their first lead of the game at the 13:42 minute mark as
Jordan Jackson hit 1-of-2 free-throws making it 15-14. But Urbana ended up outscoring Glenville State 18-17 to end the first half as we entered halftime tied up at 32-32.
In the second half both teams went back and forth early as Urbana held a one point lead at the 15:09 minute mar,k 44-43.
The Blue Knights then broke the game wide open as they went on a 17-5 runs over a five minute span as Urbana took control of the contest.
Glenville State would try and mount a comeback but the Blue Knights would answer as they defeated the Pioneers, 89-68.
The Pioneers shot just 36 percent and even worse from deep going just 3-of-13 for 23 percent while Urbana shot 49 percent from the floor and 33 percent from deep.
GSC was out rebounded by UU, 42-35 and the Blue Knights had a big advantage in the paint outscoring the Pioneers 42 to 18. Glenville State's bench also was outscored in the contest 21-7.
Darhius Nunn had a big day for GSC despite the loss scoring a game-high 32 points and dishing out four assists.
Theo Brown scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds while
Brooks Ely also chipped in with 10 points and grabbed seven boards.
Urbana was led by AJ Washington as he posted a double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Chris Jackson chipped in with 17 points while Nick Detlev scored 16 points in the win.
Glenville State (6-18, 4-14) will return to action on Thursday, February 15
th when they host Wheeling Jesuit University.
