Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers fell at the buzzer to Wheeling Jesuit University on Thursday night by three, 68-65.
Glenville State (6-19, 4-15) had three players in double figures while Wheeling Jesuit (20-5, 15-4) had four players posted in double figures.
The Glenville State Pioneers held a five point lead with under two minute to play but the Cardinals then outscored GSC 5-0 as they tied the game up at 65-65 with 51 second left to play. GSC tried to break the tie but
JR Kerr's jumper would end up short as WJU would take over and hold for the last shot.
On the last possession, the Pioneers played great defense but WJU's Preston Boswell would heave a three-point up in desperation as the clock expired and ended up drilling it with no time left on the clock as GSC fell, 68-65.
The Pioneers played a great first half as they held a one point lead at intermission, 36-35.
In the second half, Wheeling Jesuit outscored Glenville State 33-29 in the second half as they needed a desperation three-pointer to defeat the Pioneers, 68-65.
The game had 14 lead changes and 10 ties.
GSC shot 25 percent from behind the arc and shot 41 percent from the field while Wheeling Jesuit shot 49 percent from the floor and 33 percent from deep.
The Pioneers held the advantage in the paint as they out rebounded the Cardinals by eight, 37-29, GSC also outscored WJU on the inside, 38-36.
Glenville State's bench chipped in with 21 points in the ballgame while Wheeling Jesuit's bench went scoreless.
Darhius Nunn led the way for the Pioneers with 21 points and three assists while
Brooks Ely scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds as he just missed a double-double.
Jon Dunmyer chipped in with 14 points off of the bench.
Wheeling Jesuit was led by Preston Boswell as he scored a game-high 23 points and had the game winning three. Haywood Highsmith posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Pat Moseh chipped in with 13 points while Jeremiah Wilson scored 11 points.
Glenville State (6-19, 4-15) will now travel to West Liberty University for a 4:00 p.m. matchup with the Hilltoppers this Saturday. Â
