Glenville, W.Va. – The No. 7/11 Glenville State Lady Pioneer Basketball team scored over 100 points for the 10
th time this season as they rolled the Blue Knights of Urbana University 116-63.
Glenville State (23-1, 18-0) scored 59 first half points and forced Urbana (11-11, 9-9) into 24 turnovers as the Lady Pioneers picked up their 22
nd straight win.
After an early 7-7 tie between the Blue Knight and Lady Pioneers, GSC would explode as they went on a 28-4 run as they took a 35-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter would see Glenville State outscore Urbana 17-10 as they built a 31 point lead with 2:37 to play till halftime, 52-21. GSC ended up outscoring the Blue Knights 24-15 in the second quarter as they held a 33 point lead at halftime, 59-26.
The Lady Pioneers shot 47 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep in the first half while Urbana shot 33 percent from the floor and 33 percent from deep. Also in the first half GSC went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line while UU didn't attempt a free-throw.
GSC would outscore UU 23-21 in the third quarter and 34-16 in the fourth as they dominated the Blue Knights in route to a 53 point victory, 116-63.
Glenville State finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from deep hitting 17 three-pointers while Urbana shot 40 percent from the floor and 33 percent from deep.
The Lady Pioneers had a big advantage on the boards as they out rebounded the Blue Knights 53-32.
Again the defense of GSC forced UU into 24 turnovers and converted them into 31 points while the Lady Pioneers finished the game with 16 steals. Glenville State outscored Urbana 44 to 30 in the paint while also having 27 second-chance points to Urbana's eight.
Glenville State had five players score in double figures with
Paris McLeod leading the way with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go along with six rebounds and four assists.
Courtney Davis scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds off of the bench for her fifth double-double of the year.
Emily Stoller and
Bhrea Griffin each had 12 points in the win while Griffin dished out a team high five assists.
Taylor Parker chipped in with 11 points.
Urbana was led by Jenae Curtiss as she scored 12 points. Sylvia Hudson posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Glenville State (23-1, 18-0) will host the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit University this coming Thursday, February 15
th at 5:30 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
