Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer Baseball team split their home opening double-header against the Tigers of Salem University on Sunday afternoon at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
Game one saw the Pioneers trailing the Tigers, 4-0 after three innings. However GSC then held Salem scoreless in the fourth inning. The Pioneers offense then exploded in the bottom of the fourth as the Tigers walked

Logan Henderson as GSC made it, 4-1. Later in the inning
Christian Hedinger hit a four run homerun, scoring
Jordan Braniff,
Zach Bacon, and Anthony Jarivs as the Pioneers scored five runs in the inning as they took a, 5-4 lead. Â
Salem University tied it up at 5-5 in the top of the fifth but again GSC answered right back in the bottom of the inning as
Bryan Bayliss scored on a inside the park homerun as the Pioneers went back up, 6-5.
The Pioneers added two more runs in the sixth inning as
Trevon Smith hit a two run bomb over the right field fence as they Pioneers took the first game, 8-5.
Glenville State finished the game with six hits and committed two errors while Salem University had seven hits.
Christian Hedinger went 1-for-3 with four RBI's while
Trevon Smith finished 1-of-2 with two RBI's.
Bryan Bayliss and
Jordan Braniff each recorded an RBI in the win.
Andrew Hughart picked up his second win of the season on the mound as he pitched 6.0 innings allowing seven hits, five runs, and struck out three batters.
Jose Rodriguez earned the save for GSC as he pitched an inning allowing no hits, no runs, and had one strike out.
Salem University jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second game of the day as they scored three runs in the second inning and two runs in the third.
Glenville State's first run came in the bottom of the fifth as
Jordan Braniff hit a solo homerun over the left field fence as the Pioneers pulled within four, 5-1.
In the seventh GSC still trailed by four points however they would mount a comeback.
Bryan Bayliss hit a single to right field as
Jordan Braniff scored making it 5-2. Then later in the inning
Logan Henderson doubled to center field as pinch runner
Matt Ryan crossed the plate which made it, 5-3. The scoring was not over for GSC as the Tigers walked
Zach Bacon with the bases loaded as
Bryan Bayliss scored as they now trailed by one, 5-4.
Logan Henderson then tried to steal home plate on the next pitch for the Pioneers but was caught stealing as game two came to an end as GSC fell, 5-4.
The Pioneers tallied six hits and committed an error while the Tigers finished with four hits and two errors.
Jordan Braniff went 1-for-3 with an RBI while
Bryan Bayliss,
Logan Henderson, and
Zach Bacon each recorded an RBI in the contest.
Brady Wilkinson fell to 0-2 on the year as he pitched 3.0 innings giving up two hits, five runs, and struck out three batters.
Glenville State (2-4) will return to action this coming weekend Saturday, February 24
th and Sunday, February 25
th as they travel to Winston-Salem State University for a three game series. Â
