Pioneers Down Shepherd on Senior Night

Glenville, W.Va. – Glenville State's Darhius Nunn and Jon Dunmyer combined for 38 points as they lifted the Pioneers past the Shepherd University Rams on Senior Night at the Waco Center, 72-65.

Glenville State (7-20, 5-16) shot lights out on the evening, shooting 49 percent from the field and 40 percent from deep nailing 9-of-22 three-points while Shepherd (16-11, 12-9) shot 46 percent from the floor and 39 percent from deep.

The Pioneers held a 41-29 lead at halftime as they scored the last five points of the half capped off by a Theo Brown dunk.

In the second half, GSC would control the game early as they held a double digit lead. However Shepherd would rally back within three points at 63-60 with 2:49 left in the game. The Pioneers then answered back as Jon Dunmeyer hit a layup and GSC hit 5-of-6 free-throws in the game's final minutes as they held on to win on Senior Night. The victory also clinched a berth for the Pioneers in the MEC Tournament.

Shepherd won the rebounding battle 30-28. Glenville State forced the Rams into 15 turnovers and converted them into 14 points. The Pioneers bench outscored the Rams bench 17-8 in the contest.

Darhius Nunn and Jon Dunmeyer each scored 19 points to lead GSC. Nunn also dished out a game-high six assists. Brooks Ely registered 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pioneers just missing a double-double. Theo Brown scored nine points and Dwayne Chastain Jr. had eight.

Shepherd had just two players in double figures with Thomas Lang scoring a game-high 23 points. AJ Carr chipped in with 18 points and eight boards. Steffen Davis and Derek McKnight each had eight points for the Rams.

Glenville State (7-20, 5-16) will wrap up the regular season on the road Saturday, February 24th as they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College.
