No. 7/5 Glenville State Wins 25th Straight on Senior Night

Glenville, W.Va. – Glenville State Head Coach Kim Stephens celebrated her 50th career win, in just two years, in Wednesday night's 105-87 win over the Rams of Shepherd University on Senior Night.

Glenville State (26-1, 21-0) had 10 players score and drilled 20 three-pointers as they claimed their 25th straight victory and 25th straight at home.

Shepherd (13-14, 9-12) began the first quarter on a 7-5 run as Shepherd's Kayla Tibbs hit a three-pointer. However, a three-point play from senior guard Bhrea Griffin would put the Lady Pioneers up one, 8-7 at the 6:11 mark. GSC then went on a 10-4 run as the Pioneers went up seven, bringing the score to 18-11, which included a couple two point buckets from senior's Kristen Desrocher and Asiya Smith. The Lady Pioneers would end the first on top by seven points, 23-16.

Glenville State began the second quarter with an 11-4 run, including a pair of triples from Odyssey Trussell and Asiya Smith, bringing the score to 34-20, with 7:38 left in the half.

Shepherd would then answer, scoring the next nine points of the game to bring the Lady Pioneers lead within five, 34-29. However, a timely three-point play by Maya Horne, would give GSC a 10 point advantage, making the score 39-29. The Lady Pioneers and Rams would both go on to score another 13 points in the second, but GSC led at halftime, 57-42.

Shepherd registered the first points of the half, bringing GSC's lead to 13 early. A three-pointer from Courtney Davis followed by a shot beyond the arc from Kristen Desrocher, would spark a 13-10 run to put the Lady Pioneers up 20 points at the 3:57 mark, 76-56. GSC held Shepherd to just eight points in the rest of the quarter, to solidify a 22 point lead into the game's final quarter, 86-64.

In the fourth it would be all GSC as they closed out the victory, 105-87 as they finished the season sweep over the Shepherd Rams.

Glenville State shot 45 percent from the field and 42 percent from deep netting 20-of-47 three-pointers while Shepherd shot 49 percent from the field and 46 percent from deep.

GSC's defense forced 22 turnovers and scored 26 points off of them.

It was a big night for the Glenville State seniors on Senior Night as five-out-of-the-eight seniors scored in double digits. Bhrea Griffin and Kristin DesRocher led the Lady Pioneers, both with 18 points. Griffin also registered six assists. Asiya Smith scored 16 points in the victory, going 4-for-7 from deep, while grabbing six boards. Julie Bishop registered 12 points and four steals while Tayana Stewart chipped in with 10 points.

Shepherd was led by Morgan Arden as she scored a game-high 23 points. Kayla Tibbs chipped in with 21 points while Liz Moormann scored 12 points.

Glenville State (26-1, 21-0) the MEC Regular Season Champions will hit the road for the last regular season game of the year, before the MEC Tournament, as they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College this Saturday, February 24th for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Bobcats.
