Glenville, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneer softball team split their season opener with NAIA opponent Milligan College on Saturday.

In game one, Junior
Ally Brown would earn the victory on the mound. Brown surrendered three runs on four hits as the Lady Pioneer defense committed two errors.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Freshman
Kelsey Naylor would tie things up behind a two-run homer that scored
Hayley Olson. GSC would also hang two runs in the third inning behind a pair of RBI singles. Senior
McKenzie Edmonds would single to left-center and score
Catherine Pelfrey. Soon after, Olson would single to center field to score
Paranda Uber. GSC held a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the fourth. In the fourth, Pelfrey would single to center field scoring Naylor, her second run of the game. GSC would add to their lead in the top of the sixth as Naylor would score on an infield single from Senior
Kim Ellis.Â

Hayley Olson finished the day 4-4 from the plate and had an RBI. Naylor went 1-2 with a walk and a two-run homer, and also scored three runs.
Tori Ward entered the game in the seventh inning for the last two outs to earn the save for the Pioneers.

Game two would see the Lady Pioneers fall to Milligan College by a score of 6-2. Celina Malberto would get the loss on the mound. The Lady Pioneers would put a run on the board in the top half of the first inning to start the scoring.
Kim Ellis would walk and eventually score after a
Catherine Pelfrey single. However, GSC would surrender two runs in the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Milligan would tack on two more runs to push their lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Milligan would put another two runs on the board to take a 6-1 lead. GSC would score once in the top of the seventh to end the scoring. Junior
Cassidy Taylor would double to right-center and score
Paranda Uber.Â

Maberto would give up four earned runs,
Ally Brown would give up one earned run in one inning on the mound, and
Kahla Von Bergen would also get an inning on the mound where she walked two and struck out one.

From the plate, GSC hit just .208 as a team. Pelfrey would record the only RBI on the day as she knocked in Ellis. Uber's run would come due to an outfield error.

Glenville State (1-1) will return to action tomorrow, Sunday the 25
th as they take on Tusculum University in a double-header beginning at Noon.Â
