Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer men's basketball team came up short at home on Saturday afternoon as they fell to the University of Charleston, 77-69.
Glenville State (4-17, 3-13) shot 46 percent from the field but just 29 percent from deep while Charleston (13-9, 9-7) shot 46 percent from the floor and 45 percent from behind the arc.
GSC would fall behind early by nine 12 points, 16-4 at the 14:43 minute mark of the first half. However after that the Pioneers went on an 18-5 run as they took a 22-21 lead with 6:26 to play.
Glenville State would ride that momentum and build a five point lead at halftime, 35-30.
In the second half, both teams would trade buckets early but GSC would build a seven point lead at 53-46 with 12:24 left to play. But UC would go on a 20-5 run as they took an eight point lead at 66-58 with 5:23 on the clock.
GSC would try and make a late run but UC would extend their lead to double digits and hold on to defeat the Pioneers, 77-69.
The game saw three ties and nine lead changes.
GSC won the rebounding battle by one at 33-32 but was outscored in the paint by seven, 27-20.
Darhius Nunn led the Pioneers with 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists while
Jon Dunmyer scored 14 points.
Dwayne Chastain Jr. was the only other GSC player in double figures with 12 points.
Brooks Ely chipped in with nine points and four rebounds.
Charleston had three players in double figures with Kier Anderson scoring a game-high 26 points with Austin Howard chipping in with 18 points and six boards.
Glenville State (4-17, 3-13) will return to action this Thursday, February 8
th when they travel to take on Notre Dame College.
