Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team was victorious over non-conference opponent Davis & Elkins Senators on Monday night, 78-75.
Glenville State (5-17) scored 46 second half points while holding Davis & Elkins (6-15) to 38 points as they held on for the three point win.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 9-0 lead early in the contest behind three straight three-pointers from GSC with 17:32 on the clock. Glenville State managed to hold the lead however the Senators would make a run and pull within one, 22-21.
But Davis & Elkins then went on a 13-4 run as they built an 11 point lead with 2:23 to play till halftime. The Senators would go into the break with a seven point lead over GSC, 37-32.
The first half saw just one lead change.
In the second half, Davis & Elkins would continue their strong play as they went up by 13 points, 50-37, with 16:39 on the clock. However the Pioneers made a run outscoring D&E 22-9 led by
Darhius Nunn as the Pioneers tied it up at 59 all with 6:07 to play.
Glenville State then extended their lead to four points, 65-61 with less than four minutes in the game. But the Senators would keep it close as they tied it up at 65 all.
Again GSC would make some separation as they went up by five points 72-67 with just over a minute left. Davis & Elkins would try and make a run but the Pioneers would hit its free-throws down the stretch as they led by three points, 78-75, with just four seconds left. The Senators would have one last chance but a good defensive stand from the Pioneers would see Davis & Elkins three-point attempt would come up short as GSC held on for the win, 78-75.

Stephen Dye went over the century mark in wins in his Pioneer career.
Glenville State shot 39 percent from the field but just 24 percent from deep while Davis & Elkins finished the night shooting 39 percent from the floor and 29 percent from behind the arc.
Overall the game saw two ties and two lead changes.
Glenville State turned it over 10 times while Davis & Elkins had 14 turnovers. The Senators had a big night on the inside outscoring the Pioneers 44-25 in the paint.
The Pioneers got a great performance from sophomore point guard
Darhius Nunn as he scored a game-high 35 points.
Brooks Ely posted a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while fellow big man
Theo Brown also had a double-double as he scored 11 points, 11 rebounds, and had three blocks.
Elisha Mayberry chipped in with eight points for GSC.
Davis & Elkins had three players in double figures with Jordan Mcelveen scoring 23 points while Rickenjee Bellevue finished with a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Glenville State (5-17) will hit the road this Thursday, February 8
th as they travel to take on the Falcons of Notre Dame College. Â Â
