Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team went on the road Thursday and defeated the Falcons of Notre Dame College 85-64.
Glenville State (6-17, 4-13) got a big lift from their bench as they scored 28 points while Notre Dame (5-18, 3-14) got just eight points from their bench.
Early in the contest both teams went back and forth with neither team holding a lead larger than three points as at the first media timeout saw it tied up at 9-9. Again close play would continue until the 11:45 minute mark as
Jon Dunmyer nailed a three-pointer to give GSC a three point lead, 18-15.
That three-pointer would give momentum to the Pioneers as they went on to outscore the Falcons 22-14 to end the half as they held an 11 point lead at the break, 40-29. Â
Glenville State had a great first half shooting the ball as they shot 61 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep while NDC shot 25 percent from the floor but shot just 13 percent from deep.
The Pioneers came out in the second half and went on a 12-11 run as they held a 12 point advantage with under 14 minutes to play at 52-40. GSC then extended their lead to 18 points, 65-47, as they went on a 13-7 run with under eight minutes to play.
Notre Dame tried to make a run but the Pioneers proved to be too much for the Falcons as they outscored NDC 20-17 in the last eight minutes as GSC picked up the 21 point win, 85-64.
GSC finished the night shooting 56 percent from the field as they went 30-for-56 while they shot 35 percent form deep going 7-of-20 from behind the arc. Notre Dame shot 33 percent and shot just 19 percent from deep hitting just 8-of-41.
The Pioneers outscored the Falcons in the paint 38-24 and also won the rebounding battle 43-33.
Theo Brown scored a season high 17 points to lead all scorers while also pulling down a team high eight rebounds.
Darhius Nunn scored 13 points and dished out a game-high eight assists while
Brooks Ely chipped in with 12 points and five boards.
Notre Dame was led by Cole Hayes and Angelo Cugini as each had 16 points.
Glenville State (6-17, 4-14) will travel to Urbana University this Saturday, February 10
th for a 4:00 p.m. matchup with the Blue Knights.
