No. 7/11 Glenville State Extends Win Streak with Road Win over Notre Dame

Glenville, W.Va. – The No. 7/11 Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball team extended their win streak to 21 straight as they held on to pick up a huge road win over the Notre Dame College Falcons, 88-84, as they stay perfect in conference play.  

Glenville State (22-1, 17-0) overcame a poor shooting night, 38 percent from the floor and 28 percent from deep, while Notre Dame (16-8, 12-5) shot 46 percent from the field and 44 percent from deep.

Glenville State started the contest by scoring the first eight points. The Lady Pioneers then went on a 13-11 run as they took a 10 point lead over the Falcons with 3:33 left in the first quarter, 21-11.

However Notre Dame then ended the quarter on a 12-2 run as they tied the game up at 23 all after one.

The Falcons then took their first lead of the game, 26-23, at the beginning of the second quarter on a three-pointer. But again GSC went on a 12-7 run as they went up by five, 35-30 with 5:05 to play in the second.

Despite Notre Dame outscoring Glenville State 15-12 to end the second the Lady Pioneers took a two point lead into halftime, 47-45.

Glenville State started the third quarter on a small 7-4 run as they held a five point lead, 54-49 with 8:24 to play in the quarter. The Falcons went on their own run outscoring GSC 11-2 as Notre Dame took a three point lead, 59-56 at the 6:35 minute mark.

Glenville State then made a surge that would see them knot it up at 66 all before Emily Stoller connected on  a three-pointer to give the Lady Pioneers a three point lead at the end of the third, 69-66.

In the fourth, both teams struggled to score but the Lady Pioneers managed to hold a one point lead, 77-76 with under five minutes to play the game. A big three-pointer by NDC gave them a two point advantage at 79-77 with 3:33 to play but GSC's Paris McLeod would answer back with a layup tying up at 79 all with less than three minutes in the game.

Notre Dame went back up by one, 80-79 as Kim Cook went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line but again the Lady Pioneers responded as Bhrea Griffin converted an old fashioned three-point play as GSC went up 82-80 with under two minutes.

Notre Dame was then forced to start fouling to try and extend the game but GSC would connect on its free-throws down the stretch as they extended their win streak to 21 straight with an 88-84 victory.

The game saw 10 lead changes and four ties. With the win Glenville State earns a share of the MEC Women's Basketball regular season title.

Glenville State won the rebounding battle by four, 46-42. The Lady Pioneers also had a big lift from their bench as they accounted for 42 points while NDC's bench scored 22 points.

The Lady Pioneers had five players score in double figures with Emily Stoller, Abby Stoller, and Tayana Stewart all scored 13 points each. Abby also grabbed seven rebounds while Stewart pulled down six boards. Paris McLeod and Bhrea Griffin each had 12 points while McLeod also had a team high eight rebounds, to go with four assists, and five steals.

Asiya Smith scored nine points off the bench for GSC.

Notre Dame was led by Seina Adachi as she scored a game-high 19 points. Kim Cook as she posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Kyleigh Ramlow chipped in with 18 points also.

Glenville State (22-1, 17-0) will continue their road trip as they travel to Urbana University this Saturday, February 10th for a matchup with the Blue Knights.
