Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Softball team swept the Davis & Elkins College Senators in their home opener on Thursday afternoon.
Game One went to Glenville State by a final score of 6-2.
Tori Ward got the win on the mound, moving her record to 3-1. She allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings pitched. Defensively, the Lady Pioneers committed zero errors.
The Senators would get the scoring started in the top of the first inning behind a solo home-run from Jordan Crawford. GSC would tie it up in the bottom of the first inning as
Catherine Pelfrey would walk and steal second before
Ally Brown brought Pelfrey in from second on an RBI single to right-center field.
The bottom of the third inning proved to be huge for the Lady Pioneers as they scored five runs on four hits to take a 6-1 lead. Davis & Elkins would plate another run in the top of the sixth inning, but that would be all as the Lady Pioneers would hang on to win game one, 6-2. Offensively, the Lady Pioneers scored six runs on six hits and collected one walk.
Game two belonged to GSC by a final score of 5-1.
Ally Brown picked up the win on the mound as she improved to 6-3 on the year. She surrendered just one run on five hits and pitched all seven innings. Defensively,
Kim Ellis had nine putouts for GSC.
Scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as
Ally Brown blasted a solo home run to center field putting GSC up 1-0. Davis & Elkins was able to tie the game up in the top of the third inning as the Senators put together a three hit inning. The game would remain tied at 1-1 until the sixth inning as Glenville State took the lead following a
Kim Ellis single. Ellis would later score on an RBI single by
Paranda Uber.
Cassidy Taylor then walked with the bases loaded to score
Ally Brown.
Hayley Olson would ground out to second base the following at-bat to give GSC a 4-1 lead.
Taylor Brumfield's RBI single to left field scored
McKenzie Edmonds to give GSC a 5-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning.
The Senators would go down in order in the top of the seventh as GSC took game two winning, 5-1.
Offensively, the Lady Pioneers collected six hits and walked two times. Davis & Elkins finished the game with five hits.
Glenville State (9-7) will now open up conference play this Saturday, March 17
th as they travel to Shepherd University for a 1:00 p.m. double-header with the Rams.
