Shepherdstown, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer softball team dropped a double-header as they opened up conference play on Saturday falling on the road at Shepherd University.
Game one ended up going into extra innings however GSC would fall 4-3 in nine.
The Lady Pioneers struck first in the top of the fourth as
Jeri Potter stole home as GSC went up 1-0. Glenville State added another run in the fifth as
Catherine Pelfrey hit an RBI single up the middle scoring
Hannah Wright as the Lady Pioneers led 2-0.
Shepherd then took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth as they scored three runs on two hits going up 3-2.
However GSC tied it up in the seventh at 3-3 with
Ally Brown hitting an RBI double to right field scoring Pelfrey as we headed into extra innings.
Shepherd took a 4-3 lead in the ninth as they scored on a wild pitch as they took the first game of the day 4-3.
Glenville State finished with five hits while committing three errors with Shepherd racking up seven hits and one error.
Tori Ward pitched 8.0 innings allowing five hits, three runs, with two strike outs.
Catherine Pelfrey went 1-for-4 with an RBI while
Ally Brown went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
In game two, Shepherd would score seven runs in first two innings as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
Glenville State added two runs in the sixth inning as
Hayley Olson hit an RBI triple to right field scoring
McKenzie Edmonds and
Taylor Brumfield grounded out to second base as
Hayley Olson crossed the plate but it wouldn't be enough as the Rams held on to win the second game 7-2.
The Lady Pioneers tallied six hits and committed two errors while Shepherd finished with 12 hits.
Ally Brown pitched 1.2 innings allowing seven runs on seven hits and had just one strike out.
McKenzie Edmonds went 3-for-3 while
Hayley Olson finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Glenville State (9-9, 0-2) will return to action tomorrow Sunday, March 18
th as they travel to Fairmont State University for a 1:00 p.m. double-header. Â
