Softball Splits Double-Header with Concord

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer softball team split a double-header with the Mountain Lions of Concord University as they claimed their first conference win of the season on Saturday.

Glenville State took control early of game one in the second inning as Hayley Olson singled to third base scoring Paranda Uber. Later, Hannah Wright doubled to left field as Hayley Olson and Cassidy Taylor both crossed the plate as GSC took a 3-0 lead. 

Concord tied it up in the fifth at 3-3 off of two hits. 

The Mountain Lions went on to take their first lead of the game at 4-3, in the top of the seventh, off of a solo homerun from Abby Beatty. However, GSC tied it up in the bottom of the seventh,4-4, as Paranda Uber scored on a wild pitch which sent us to extra innings. 

Both teams went scoreless in the eighth. Concord would break the tie in the ninth on an RBI single as they now led 5-4. Glenville State came up scoreless in the bottom of the ninth as they fell 5-4.

???????Glenville State tallied nine hits while committing one error. Concord finished with 13 hits and an error.

Celina Maberto pitched 4.2 innings giving up two runs on nine hits to go with two strike outs.

Hannah Wright went 2-for-4 with two RBI's while Hayley Olson went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In game two, the Lady Pioneers held a 4-1 lead after three innings. Concord cut GSC's lead to just one in the top of the fourth as they added two runs making it 4-3. 

???????Glenville State added another run in the bottom of the fourth; Ally Brown doubled to center field which scored Catherin Pelfrey as they now led 5-3.

The Mountain Lions then scored a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth as they took a 6-5 lead.

???????Glenville State then broke the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth as they scored five runs on four hits as they went on to defeat Concord, 10-6.

???????Glenville State recorded 11 hits while Concord finished with 10 hits and error.

Ally Brown (7-5) picked up the win on the mound as she pitched 7.0 innings allowing six runs on 10 hits and struck out three batters.

Ally Brown went 2-for-3 with four RBI's while Hannah Wright went 4-for-4 with two RBI's. Tori Ward, McKenzie Edmonds, and Cassidy Taylor all had an RBI in the win.

???????Glenville State (10-12, 1-5) will host the UVa-Wise Cavaliers in a double-header tomorrow on Sunday, March 25 at 12:00 p.m. from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
