Institute, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneer softball team went on the road Sunday and split a double-header with the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State.
Game one belonged to GSC as
Ally Brown pitched a 2-0 shutout as she went the entire game earning her 11
th win of the season. Brown gave up just four hits while striking out four batters.
The only scoring in the game came from the Lady Pioneers in the third inning.
Paranda Uber singled to the shortstop as
Kim Ellis and
Cassidy Taylor both crossed the plate as they went on to win 2-0.
Glenville State finished with six hits while only committing an error.
Paranda Uber went 1-for-4 with two RBI while
Kim Ellis went 1-for-3.
Catherine Pelfrey finished the game 2-for-2 while
Ally Brown and
McKenzie Edmonds each recorded a hit.
Game two went into extra innings with the Yellow Jackets coming out on top in the bottom of the ninth, 3-2.
Glenville State registered seven hits in the contest. West Virginia State finished with nine hits while committing three errors.
GSC would strike first in the third inning as
Cassidy Taylor homered to left field, her first of the year, putting the Lady Pioneers up 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets took their first lead in the fourth; they scored two runs on two hits as they led GSC, 2-1. The Lady Pioneers then tied it up at 2-2 in the sixth inning as
Ally Brown hit an RBI single to left field scoring
Hayley Olson.
In the seventh and eighth inning both teams went scoreless. In the bottom of the ninth, the Yellow Jackets ended the game with a single to right field as they defeated GSC, 3-2.
Tori Ward pitched the entire contest allowing three runs on nine hits with one strike out.
Cassidy Taylor and
Ally Brown both went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Glenville State (17-19, 6-12) will host West Virginia Tech at home on Wednesday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. at the Sue Morris Complex in a double-header. Â Â
