Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team swept the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Senior Day at home Sunday afternoon.
Glenville State took game one of the afternoon, 8-6.
The Pioneers tallied eight hits while giving up seven to the Bobcats. West Virginia Wesleyan also committed two errors in the game.
GSC struck first in the second inning when
Zach Bacon singled to right scoring
Jordan Braniff and later
Tyler Phillips homered as he scored
Zach Bacon as they led 3-0.
The Bobcats scored two runs in the third as they pulled within one run, 3-2. West Virginia Wesleyan then took their first lead of the ball game in the fifth as they scored four runs to take a 6-3 lead.
However the Pioneers responded in the fifth as they scored five runs on three hits to comeback and defeat the Bobcats, 8-6.
Christian Hedinger finished with two RBI while
Zach Bacon went 3-for-3 with two RBI and
Tyler Phillips finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Wes Stauffer pitched 5.0 innings as he claimed his third win of the season allowing six hits, six runs, and three strike outs.
Jesse Weathers earned his first save of the year.
Game two belonged to the Pioneers as they completed the four-game sweep against WVWC defeating the Bobcats, 5-2.
GSC racked up 12 hits and committed an error while WVWC finished with seven hits.
The Bobcats took an early lead, 1-0, in the first inning. Glenville State helped tie the game up at 1-1 as Tre' Smith doubled to center field scoring
Logan Henderson.
GSC then took their first lead of the game in the fourth as
Zach Bacon hit his third home run of the season scoring
Christian Hedinger as the Pioneers went up, 3-1.
The Bobcats added a run in the sixth inning to pull within a run, 3-2.
Glenville State then put the Bobcats away in the sixth inning as
Bryan Bayliss hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring
Logan Henderson and
Tyler Phillips. Later in the sixth,
John Peloro tripled to center field as
Logan Henderson crossed the plate as the Pioneers defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 5-2.
Jacob Braniff pitched the entire game allowing two runs on seven hits to go with five strike outs.
Tre' Smith went 2-for-2 with an RBI while
Zach Bacon went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Also for the Pioneers Bryan Bayliis and
John Peloro both recorded an RBI.
Glenville State's (19-27, 16-16) season now comes to an end as they just miss the MEC Conference Tournament.
