Women’s Soccer Scores First Goal in School History, Falls at Washington Adventist

Takoma Park, Md. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer soccer team scored four goals on Wednesday night against the Washington Adventist Shock, the first goals in school history and NCAA DII history, but ended up falling, 8-4.

Glenville State (0-9-0, 0-5-0 MEC) recorded a season high nine shots in the contest while Washington Adventist (5-3) had 27 total in the game.

WAU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 2:36 mark. However, GSC's first career goal in school history would tie it up at 1-1 as freshman Kacey Evans scored at the 11:55 minute mark.

The Shock then answered back by scoring the next four goals before halftime as they led the Lady Pioneers, 5-1.

WAU struck first in the second half, at the 47:08 mark, when Jennifer Santos scored her third goal of the game as GSC fell behind 6-1.

However, the Lady Pioneers responded. Kacey Evans scored her second goal of the contest, this one coming at the 50:53 mark, off of an assist from Brie Webb as the Lady Pioneers made it 6-2.

Glenville State then struck again this time by an unassisted Julia Lesko pulling the Lady Pioneers within three, 6-3.

Washington Adventist put the game out of reach as they scored back-to-back goals as they went up, 8-3. Again GSC responded as Julia Lesko scored her second goal of the day however Glenville State would still come up short, falling 8-4.

Glenville State had five corner kicks in the contest while Washington Adventist finished with eight.

GSC goalie Alyssa Banks finished with 11 saves and allowing five goals while fellow goalie Morgan Smailes had two saves and gave up three goals.

Kacey Evans had two goals in the contest and the first official goal in GSC history while Julia Lesko also had two goals.

WAU was led by Jennifer Santos as she had four goals on 10 shots. WAU's goalie Laura Perez had one save and gave up four goals.

Glenville State (0-9-0, 0-5-0 MEC) will return to action this Sunday, September 30th when they host Shepherd University at I.L. & Sue Morris Stadium at 2 p.m.
