Lady Pioneer Soccer Falls in Home Opener

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer soccer team dropped their first official game, since becoming a member of the NCAA DII and the MEC Conference, on Monday afternoon to the IUP Crimson Hawks, 7-0.

Glenville State (0-1-0) had just seven shots in the contest while IUP (2-1-0) finished with 35 total shots.

IUP struck first at the 15:20 minute mark of the first as Mahogany Willis scored making it 1-0. Later in the match the Crimson Hawks would add to their lead at the 19:03 minute mark when Gianna Parlavecchio scored on an assist from Kallie Conte as they went up 2-0. 

The Crimson Hawks final goal before the half came at the 29:38 minute mark when McKenna Keffel scored as GSC went into halftime trailing, 3-0.

Glenville State would try to get back into the game in the second half however, the Lady Pioneers could not weather the storm as IUP went on to score four more goals. GSC dropped their home opener, 7-0.

Julia Lesko had two shots while Brie Webb finished with one shot.

In the goal, GSC's Morgan Smailes gave up three goals and had nine saves while Hannah Beaty gave up four goals and also finished with nine saves.

Nikki Bowman had two goals for IUP while Mahogany Willis, McKenna Keffel, and Ginna Parlavecchio all scored a goal.

Goalie Maria Tunney had three saves for the Crimson Hawks. 

​​​​​​​Glenville State (0-1-0) will return to action this Wednesday, September 5th when they travel to Shepherd University for a 12 p.m. matchup with the Rams.
