Volleyball Earns Two Road Victories

Salem, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer volleyball team picked up two wins on the road Tuesday afternoon as they defeated the Salem University Tigers and the University of Rio Grande Red Storm.

Game one of the afternoon, the Lady Pioneers defeated the Salem University Tigers, 3-2 (25-10, 18-25, 23-25, 25-22, and 18-16).

It would be all GSC in set number one as they took it 25-10. The Lady Pioneers had nine kills while committing just two errors. The Tigers only had four kills and committed 11 errors.

However, Salem would bounce back taking the second set, 25-18. The Tigers went on to win the third set, 25-23.

Glenville State then tied it up at two sets a piece in the fourth set finishing with 15 kills while the Salem had six kills as they took it, 25-22.

In the fifth and final set, both teams went back and forth as we were tied 10-10. GSC then scored the next two points as they went up, 12-10. Again, Salem would tie it up at 12-12.

Both teams would make little separation as we ended up tied again this time at 16-16. However GSC scored the last two points, as an error by Salem and then a service ace by Shannon Hahn secured the win for the Lady Pioneers, 3-2.

Glenville State (2-3) finished the contest with 60 kills and 31 errors; Salem (0-10) had 37 kills and 28 errors.

Bailey Brawner had a game-high 20 kills on 42 attacks while also finishing with 12 digs. Chase Cooksey chipped in with 14 kills while Jazaray Clark-Casto also finished with 14 kills.

Ai Miyazaki led the team in digs with 18 while Madison Gargus had 25 assists and Shannon Hahn chipped in with 21 assists.

Salem was led by Liane Moser as she had 15 kills.

In the second game of the day, the Lady Pioneers would come up victorious as they defeated the University of Rio Grande, 3-2  (25-19, 20-25, 25-17, 21-25, and 15-6).

The Lady Pioneers took the first set, 25-19. GSC tallied 11 kills while committing seven errors. The Red Storm had nine kills but had 11 errors.

Rio Grande would tie it up at 1-1 as they took set number two from GSC, 25-20. The Lady Pioneers hurt themselves in the second set as they committed 10 errors.

Glenville State took the third set, 25-17 as they finished with six more kills than Rio Grande had in the set at 12-6. Again though, the Red Storm bounced back as they won the fourth set taking it, 25-21.

In the fifth set it would be all GSC as they dominated the Red Storm winning it, 15-6, as they earned their third win of the year.

Glenville State (3-3) had 53 total kills on 146 attacks and finished with six service aces while the University of Rio Grande (1-7) had 41 kills on 147 attacks and tallied three service aces.

Bailey Brawner and Jazaray Clark-Casto both had a nice game as they each tallied 13 kills. Brawner also had a game-high 18 digs. Skylar Mace finished the game with 11 kills to go with two solo blocks.

Madison Gargus led the team in assists with 45 while Ai Miyazaki chipped in with 13 digs and had three service aces.

Glenville State (3-3) will hit the road this weekend on Saturday, September 8th when they travel to Kentucky Christian for a tri-match with the Lady Knights at 11 a.m. and University of the Cumberlands at 1 p.m.
