Jamal Pollydore poured in a career-high 31 points but it wasn't enough as the Pioneer men's basketball team fell to the University of Charleston on Saturday, 99-81.
Glenville State (7-9, 2-8) shot 52 percent from the field for the contest and 37 percent from deep while Charleston (11-5, 6-4) shot 50 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the arc.
The Pioneers started the contest off hot as they raced out to an early eight point lead, 12-4 at the 15:35 minute mark. Glenville State then stretched their lead to 11, 25-14, as they outscored the Golden Eagles 13-8 with 12:09 to play until halftime.
GSC later stretched the lead to as many as 12 points but UC scored the last four points of the half as they cut the Pioneers lead to six at the break, 46-40.
The Pioneers shot red hot from the field in the first half as they finished shooting 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep.
UC started the second half on a 15-9 run as they tied it up at 55 all at the 14:13 minute mark. UC then took their first lead of the second half on the next possession on a Devon Robinson layup as they led, 57-55. The Golden Eagles went on another run as they outscored GSC 18-9 as they went up by 11, 75-64 with 8:17 to play.
After the run by UC the Pioneers tried to weather the storm but the Golden Eagles proved to be too much as they ended up dropping their fourth straight game, 91-88.
Glenville State shot 42 percent in the second half and went just 1-of-6 from deep for 16 percent. The Golden Eagles shot 62 percent in the second and shot 55 percent from deep.
Glenville State's largest lead was 12 points which came in the first half while UC's largest lead was by 20 which came in the second.
The Pioneers outscored the Golden Eagles in the paint 53-52 but UC had a huge advantage in second chance points outscoring GSC 23-8.
Glenville State had three players in double figures with
Jamal Pollydores game and career-high 31 points while
Kalin Johnson scored 21 points and dished out four assists.
Phil Bledsoe just missed a double-double as he scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Drew Rackley scored 30 points for the Golden Eagles while LaMont McManus chipped in with 21 points. Devon Robinson grabbed 14 rebounds while scoring four points.
Glenville State (7-9, 2-8) will host the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State this coming Wednesday, January 23
rd at 7:30 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
