Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer men's basketball team gave a valiant effort but fell short at home on Thursday to Fairmont State University by five, 95-90.
Glenville State (7-10, 2-9) had four players post double figures and shot 41 percent from the field. Fairmont State (13-4, 10-1) also had four players in double figures but shot better from the field at 48 percent.
Jump too late in the second half with just 20 seconds and a two point FSU lead, 92-90,
Phil Bledsoe would get a look to take the lead but his shot came up short. The Fighting Falcons then made 3-of-4 foul shots as they held on to the five point win.
GSC had two more chances from deep but none would fall.
The contest had 13 lead changes and eight ties. GSC's largest lead of the game came in the first half at the 7:57 minute mark as they led by 11. Fairmont State's largest lead was in the second half at the 11:06 mark as they led by six.
The Pioneers had a huge advantage on the boards as they out rebounded FSU, 54-35.
Glenville State had 17 second chance points while Fairmont State had just seven.
Phil Bledsoe scored a game-high 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as he posted his ninth double-double of the year.
Jamal Pollydore chipped in with 19 points while
Howard Smith scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards.
Kalin Johnson finished the night with 11 points and 12 assists as he posted a double-double
Fairmont State was led by Jason Jolly as he scored 31 points hitting eight three-pointers in the contest. Vonte Montgomery finished with 25 points and 11 boards for a double-double.
Glenville State (7-10, 2-9) will hit the road this Saturday, January 26
th as they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
