Lady Pioneers Win 30th Straight at Home, Defeats Golden Eagles

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers picked up their 30th straight win at home on Saturday as they defeated the University of Charleston Golden Eagles by 10, 88-78.

Glenville State (14-2, 9-1) had a balanced offensive attack as they had five players post double figures. The University of Charleston (14-2, 9-1) had two players finish in double figures.

Jump to the fourth and the Golden Eagles held a one point advantage over the Lady Pioneers 61-60 with 6:32 to play. However, GSC then made a quick 10-2 run as they took a seven point lead, 70-63 with 4:09 left.

The Lady Pioneers then stretched their lead to nine at the 3:17 minute mark as Re'Shawna Stone's layup was good, 75-66. But the Golden Eagles then scored six points off of two costly Pioneer turnovers as they pulled back within three, 75-72 with 2:41 left.

However, Glenville State outscored UC in the last 2:41, 13-6, and hit several free-throws down the stretch as they picked up the 10 point victory, 88-78.

Glenville State's largest lead of the contest was by 10 while Charleston's was by three points which came in the first half of action.

The Lady Pioneers finished the game shooting 43 percent from the field and 30 percent from deep drilling 7-of-23 three-pointers. The Golden Eagles shot 48 percent from the floor and 14 percent from deep hitting just 1-of-7 three's.

Glenville State forced UC into 15 turnovers while Lady Pioneers gave it up 19 times however both teams scored 21 points off of turnovers.

Donasja Scott led GSC with 19 points and seven rebounds as she finished the contest shooting 7-of-10 from the field. Emily Stoller scored 17 points and dished out three assists. Emily also was 9-of-10 from the charity strip. Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Ty Armstrong finished the game with 14 points and was perfect from the free-throw line at 6-for-6 and Courtney Davis scored 10 points.

Charleston was led by Raziyah Farrington as she scored a game-high 33 points and grabbed six rebounds. Dionna Sanders was the only other Golden Eagle in double figures as she scored 19 points and pulled down 15 boards as she posted a double-double.

Glenville State (14-2, 9-1) will return to the Waco Center this coming Wednesday, January 23rd as they welcome the Fairmont State University Fighting Falcons to Glenville. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
